**Overview & Responsibilities**

 

 

 

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:** Manages software development teams on projects of significant size, scope, and complexity. Responsible for the product design of one or more product lines. Recommends most efficient way to produce new products. Evaluates progress and results of development efforts.

 

 

 

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:** Excellent knowledge of company's software development design procedures. Excellent organizational, leadership, decision making and communication skills. PCs and various software applications. Familiar with standard software development tools, including incident tracking, documentation, and testing systems. Ability to communicate technical information and ideas so others will understand. Ability to make appropriate decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions. Ability to apply varying leadership skills and traits that create solutions and results to unexpected situations. Ability to coach and motivate less experienced team members to achieve their goals. Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups.

 

 

 

**Qualifications**

 

 

 

1. **JOB COMPLEXITY:** Manages moderate-sized software development projects, usually within an assigned product line. Ensures projects are completed on time and according to corporate quality standards. Facilitates communication upward and across project team including project status, justifications for variances, and technical information (architecture, design and implementation objectives). Serves as focal point for other departments on project status or other project information. Organizes project through development of a Project Plan. Ensures projects are completed according to product specifications and are properly documented. Implementation of the product satisfies the product specifications. Product architecture and implementation is maintainable and extendible to accommodate future development and maintenance (architecture documentation and architecture design review). Ensures that: a) Documentation gets appropriate level of technical review support b) QA test plans meet the project requirements c) Appropriate development and corporate methods and procedures are followed. Manages personnel activities of staff (i.e., hires, trains, appraises, rewards, motivates, disciplines, recommends termination, as necessary)

 

2. **SUPERVISION:** Provides direct supervision to people managers and individual contributors. Overall review based on the efficient and effective attainment of goals and objectives.

 

3. **EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:** High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Business, Software Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred. Requires a minimum of 10 years of technical experience in software development, including 3 years of project leadership experience. Demonstrated success in leading software product development projects of significant scope at an enterprise level.

 

4. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** General office environment. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. High levels of stress may occur. No special physical demands required.
